Stout It Out
This is a foreign style stout.

Recipe
8 lbs Pale Ale Malt 1 lb Flaked Barley 1 lb Roasted Barley 1/2 cup Lactose Milk Sugar 3 oz Kent Goldings Hop 4.7 alpha 1/2 t Irish Moss 2 t Gypsum Wyeast Irish Ale yeast
Mash schedule: 12 qts water
- 30 minutes 130F, 45 minutes 150F, 15 minutes 158F, 10 minutes 170F
Sparge with 3 gallons, and then boil down to 5 gallons
Boil hops for 60 minutes, add Irish Moss last 10 minutes of boil
Original Gravity: 1.054 Final Gravity: 1.018

I brewed this stout intending a stronger, high gravity type of beer. The low initial gravity has me somewhat confused. I figure that my step mash wasn't as efficient as it could have been.
I kegged this beer for my HalloweenParty, so it was never entered into any competion or judged.
