Shakespeare Festival MacBeth. Come picnic in the park before the show.
Stubborn ambition takes Macbeth on an arrow-straight path to the dark side—driving a man who’s been a faithful vassal of a good king to unspeakable acts. What makes him go so unswervingly wrong? Is it the supernatural trickery of three weird sisters? His love for—and compact with—the frightening Lady Macbeth? Or some inner force that drives him to seek absolute power? This production of Shakespeare’s tragedy makes us feel the horror of inescapable guilt and the ensuing blood lust. It seeks a motive that is altogether modern, yet timeless and universal.
- August 8
Shakespeare Festival 3 Musketeers. Come picnic in the park before the show.
It’s a classic in every sense of the word—the story of inseparable friends who live by the motto, "One for all, and all for one." Flashing swords and plumed hats flying, these men live for their king, the women who adore them, and brotherhood. Director Carolyn Howarth says, “The adaptation we’re using beautifully renders the romance, the swashbuckling, the piratical element, the spectacle—and the humor! I think the show will be an absolute lark to experience.”
- August 9
Shakespeare Festival Love Labour's Lost. Come picnic in the park before the show.
Four gentlemen friends have sworn an oath to devote three years to studying and meditation, fasting often, sleeping little, and speaking to no women. Enter, on a visit, the four beautiful women, setting the stage for a lively duel between the sexes. The duel quickly turns to a dance of wit and words blending the serious and the silly, the bitter and the sweet. An engaging gem of a play, Love’s Labour’s Lost has the elegance, the sparkle, the kick of champagne.
